[at-l] food

The seasoning packs are handy sources for salt: Salt is probably the main
ingredient. Also, if you tightly close them, you can make one pack last for
several seasonings.

I often buy large boxes of ramens. I eat the noodles and save he packs:
Sometimes I eat them with just catsup. Sometimes with some red sauce.
Sometimes tossed with mayo or with butter. And I have added eggs, butter,
and sugar and baked them. So I often have a surplus of the packets. And
they keep almost forever: Like CDs and DVDs, there is no telling how long
they will last.

But if you really like a food or can really stand a food, you can get by one
food for the whole trail: I read in one book that one ATer bought a 50 lb.
bag of lentils and a 50 lb. bag of rice.

And I have often lived off of beans and rice in town. This week I am so
lazy, my diet is mainly instant potatoes and pork & beans. Two months ago I
ate almost nothing but plain oatmeal with butter flavored Crisco.

Ramen is an excellent filler and like Art indicates, it can be doctored in
any number of ways. But I'd try it out experimentally at home first: Living
off of ramen. You can always dash out to Hardee's if you are at home and
find the third day of Ramen is killing you.

LOTS of ramen, and it just doesn't work out. You can take up half a large

pack with the stuff and still not have enough calories to survive. >>

Instead of flavor packs, add peanutbutter to your ramen. Tastes like Tai
noodles. Adds considerable calories depending on volume of peanutbutter you
add.
And it's pretty good. Can spice that up with a little hot sauce.
