I promptly erase such reports because my interest is in the trail and the trail
experience, not the idea of the trail as a race or a challenge to be conquered
by speed, starting time, or other special effort.

However, I vaguely remember that someone on the list has reported the first of
the 2003 thru-hikers have already made it to the summit of Katahdin.
