My grandson, who had some kind of a learning disability, could only read about a
dozen words when we hiked 270-miles of the AT in Maine in 1991. He struggled
with school for years before insisting on quitting high school after his
sophomore year. His mother finally agreed on condition he go back if he couldn't
pass his GED. He passed on his first attempt.

Now, age 21, after a six month tour of latin America with his girlfriend, he
works fulltime and attends college half time.

Weary, who kicked around colleges and minimum wage jobs for 12 years before
finally earning a BS 12 years out of high school.
