I could get cigs for 25 cent a pack.  
 
I remember going into a Woolworth's from a Belk's.  I was about 16.  I
bought a pack from the vending machine for a quarter in the itty-bitty
hallway that seperated the two stores -- Luckies I think.  I knew I was
ahead of my parents.  Then I went on to the lunch counter and met my Mom
sitting there.  
 
Learned to smoke in the Scouts.  Our tent had to go on a midnight hike.  Not
because we were smoking.  Because we were keeping the rest of the campers
up: "Cough, Cough." and "I have a Roy-yell flush!" 
 
I DO SOLEMLY PROMISE NOT TO KEEP UP ANYONE ON THE AT.
 
Also I use to pack Jack cookies on a woods walkabout.  You could get them
out of jars for a penny a piece.  Some were 2 for a penny.  And one was 2
pennies for one.  But they were bigger than my Dad's hand.  And thick.  And
Sugary.  Good food for a wandering hike.

Way back when I used to have to walk five miles uphill each way through
chest deep snow to get to school and back home (ah, but I digress) all
candybars were a nickel except the really big expensive ones that were a
dime.  And a pack of ciggies was 35 cents.  Isn't that about what you're
paying for one coffin nail these days?  
 
So careful with the THAT old stuff...

I remember when I could buy SIX candy bars at the Piggly Wiggly for a $1.
SIX!   And that included Tennessee's God-awful sales tax of 8%. Gawd, am I
THAT old?  They're a freaking buck a piece now....
I wonder how much ramen was?  A penny?
