OT: Ivory Soap (was) RE: Re[2]: [at-l] who, where, & why

During one of the Arab-Israeli conflicts and just before it broke open in to
war, Israel made an annoucement that it was not going to war.  AP or another
wire agency or a major paper (back when wire agencies were very, very
important in reporting news) wired its reporter in Israel asking if the
Israel government was telling the truth.  He had seen what was going on and
needed some way to let his home office know that Israel WAS preparing for
war.  But the Iraeli government was monitoring all such reports.  So he
wired back something to the effect that the Iraeli government's statements
were IVORY soap pure.  The censors let it through.  They did not know the
Ivory soap ads.  The next day headlines reported that Israel was going to
war.

There's something suspicious about that science article, claiming that
chimps
and humans are 99.4 % alike. For one thing that is a suspicious percentage.
The
old radio ads claimed that Ivory Soap was "99 and 44/100 percent pure." And
this
list knows that's not true. Why Ivory soap suds are terribly damaging if
spilled
on the forest floor.

 Even more condemning is the claims about some "extinct creatures such as
Neanderthals (Homo Neanderthalis)"

 We all know Neanderthals are far from extinct. Why we meet them all the
time on
 the internet.
