I gotta agree with Shane here. 
Drunk or not is irrelevant. 
The fact that he was that inebriated in the first place shows his true
character. 
There is no excuse for violence of the kind that he exhbited.

Which doesn't excuse anything.  If he had killed her, he'd still be a
murderer.
