All this talk o' the Kennebec crossing reminds me of this (From Jan. 
26th, 1998):

Jesus, Moses and Wingfoot are hiking the AT. They get to the Kennebec 
River. Jesus doesn't even slow down, walks right on the water to the 
other side. Moses looks here and there. Finally, he takes his Leki Makula 
staff and splits the mighty river and walks across on a dry riverbed. 
Wingfoot lights a cigarette and shakes his head. "Trail doesn't cross 
there, guys."
