[at-l] Pantyhose as Sock Liners?

An article in the paper concerning unusual items soldiers in Iraq are using 
to improve their comfort says:

    For long marches, pantyhose are just the thing to replace the
    chafing of socks and boots with the swish of nylon.  You don't
    wear the whole thing, just the part below the knees.

Sounds like they're using pantyhose for sock liners.  Anyone tried this?
