[at-l] Yet another fun filled weekend in CO...

Another beautiful weekend in the front range of
Colorado...and another beautiful weekend of outdoor
fun.

The weekend started off Saturday for a bike ride from
south Boulder (where I live) to a breakfast
potluck at friend Andrew's house (in north Boulder).
After munching on eggs, bacon, muffins and juice a
large group of us biked to the Boulder Resevoir for
the annual KBCO Kinetics festival.

This festival is put on a by a local radio station and
is a Boulder tradition. The centerpiece of this
festival is the launching of crafts that are human
propeled across the Boulder res. After going through a
course, the craft must be pushed/pulled (it helps if
the craft also has wheels!) on a dirt track. Besides
winning the race, points are given for panache, if you
will. Themes of the crafts were "Space Invaders" the
featured a crew made up of people in shiny silver
uniforms, "Picnic" complete with a crew in ant
costumes, a faux picnic table, lawn, food, etc. and a
craft in the shape of a pink Flamingo.

If you bike to this event, it only cost $5. Besides
the race, there were also two bands playing. Not too
shabby of a way to spend a day.... Other people
thought the same way, as there were hundreds of bikes
in the parking lot! (You can also take a shuttle from
a nearby mall for the same price. And if you really,
really, really want to drive in you can pay $50 a
carload. :O Saw MANY pickup trucks loaded with people)
After the festivities, biked back to Casa Mags along
the many bike paths in town and enjoyed the blue
skies, the view of the foothills and the great
weather.

Today, went for a spring time hike up a favorite of
mine: Deer Mtn in Rocky Mtn NP.

This hike has a great "effort to view ratio". Only
1083' gain in 3 miles, it has spectacular views of the
divide, Longs Peak and the Mummy Range. The day
started off cloudy in Boulder, and it was flurrying at
the trailhead. But, just before the summit, the sun
broke through the clouds and it warmed up
considerably. We all rejoiced and I again thought
"Wow, I'm a lucky guy!" Looking out the Rockies,
being with good friends and having something to do
every weekend does put me in a good mood!

Next weekend my buddy Tim is in town. Who knows what
trip reports I'll have out of that visit. :-)
(Tim, whom many you have heard me mention, is a friend
I have known since 1st grade. He hiked the last week
of the AT and the PCT with me. He is working on his
"one week triple crown" as he put it!)
