If I wanted to make a donation, I would already have donated.

My technique for all solicitations is to attempt a pleasing demeanor (smile
and/or tone of voice) and reply, =93No, thank you, but thank you for
asking/calling.=94  I then continue on my way.

This can approach the satisfaction I gain from my traffic faux pas reaction.
  When I=92ve made a mistake, and honking and Italian Finger Communication
ensue, I love to wave gaily as I drive away, as if to thank them for their
admiring attention.  Boy, the looks on their faces are priceless.

Levity during rush hour traffic is so relaxing, but the gasp of the
telephone solicitor is still enjoyable, and the sweet child solicitor
questioning his/her chaperone what my reply means almost brings a giggle.
