take exit 7 off I-40 in NC (Harmon Den exit). head north on the FS road 7-8 miles, turn left at sign for max patch, go another 2 miles, trailhead parking lot at the top of the mountain on your left.
i just got back from there a few hours ago. 6 inches of snow on the mountain yesterday, 70 degrees today.
