[at-l] Fuel bottles and Flight

NOT LIST POSTED:
First, call the Post office. Ask their regulations.

Second, call the airlines. Ask their regulations.

The penalties for breaking the rules (which often are LAWS) can be hard. At
the best, they start your hike off with a bad taste.

You can find yourself pulled off your flight. You can find the FBI knocking
on your door. You can find yourself explaining and proving that you are an
innocent hiker, and even after that you still can have your equipment
confiscated plus paying a big fine. Or perhaps even being banned from
flying. Plus the expense of hiring a lawyer or two. Granted these are
extremes, but they can happen.

During these paranoid times, laws are trickier in such situations and the
enforcement of the old and new laws can go to the extremes. And while in
"normal" times, you can afford to go to non-lawyers for such advise & do
things that you cannot do now.* Why go through all the potential heartaches
when all it should take is a few simple phone calls?

& Let us know what you find out.

*	One of my friends has a brother who lives and works down near the
mega-large base in Georgia. Pre-9/11 he regularly cut through the base on a
"road" that was de-facto open to local residents. He did not listen to the
radio or TV on 9/11, on 9/12 he was going to a Mom & Pops. Guess what
happened. Now locals drive miles out of their pre-9/11 way.

Hi,
I'm planning on thru hiking and I'm going to arrive in atlanta on april 2nd.
I'm wondering what your experiences are with fuel bottles and flight. I've
got an optimus nova with one fuel bottle.
Should I have it mailed down? I'm still awaiting the arrival of my thru
hikers companion so I dont know the addresses of anything yet.
I've read in some forums that there are places to mail to right near
springer, I'd like to get this straightened out asap.

Thanks for the help.

P.S. If anyone know any good sources of info on shuttlers let me know (I've
seen the list linked on the atc website).
