[at-l] Beautiful day

It was such a nice day here in Northern Vermont that I put on my backcountry
skis and headed back into the mountain near home here in Stowe. The sun was
bright the temperature in the low 20's. I skied from the next drainage north
of the Stowe ski area up onto the high ridge where I could look across to the
ski slopes.
The snow is 4 to 5 feet deep and still tight to the trees indicating there
has been little or no melting at the higher elevations. With the warm sun
shinning on the frozen hardwoods, for a little while the trees were popping
like someone was shooting a 22 rifle. I selfishly had the beautiful, serene
back woods all to myself for about 5 hours.

This terrain is similar to a lot of the AT in Northern New England and if
this is any indicator there will snow on the AT late this spring.
