They are competing for limited dollars. I am involved with the boys club and
we have professional money beggers (their term not mine)that keep us afloat.
A good non profit manager that increases donations are worth thier weight in
gold. If your organization is bringing in 10 million a year and a new
manager with their connections can get you 30 million, how much is that
person worth? There are a lot of competing organizations for dollars. I
suspect the lodge in the whites has more to do with getting well healed
donors to think they are experiencing the wilderness and therefore are
willing to make donations from their corporations than anything else. If you
are not familiar with something you are less apt to give. If they can take
little spoiled Johnnie to the "woods" for a good time they are more likely to
support it with their dollars. The people that donate hundreds of dollars
don't like the intrusion but the decision makers sometimes sacrafice one
thing to get the corporations to donate hundreds of thousands.
