[at-l] War but not THAT ONE!

my History 101 professor said that.

Knowing about wars, especially the horrors and costs of victory, does not
romanticize the tragedy. A tour of Manassas would quickly relieve Weary and
you of such fear. Bravery was eclipsed by idiocy in both battles.

I believe the original question was to learn more about the history of the
trail, not to "celebrate" any act of war. It is interesting how such a
concept morphed for you.
