ERWIN - Nuclear Fuel Services said Thursday it has pledged $20,000 to
the Unicoi County Commission to help with the south extension of the
Erwin Linear Trail.
"Erwin's Linear Trail plays an important role in enhancing the quality
of life for county residents. NFS is happy to play a role in extending
the trail to Chestoa," NFS President Dwight Ferguson said.
"Not only will it offer more options for local residents, but it can
help boost the economy by inviting more hikers from the Appalachian
Trail to visit Erwin and county businesses."

The section of trail extension will begin at Temple Hill Road at the
Holiday Inn Express and continue south for more than a mile to Unaka
Springs Road. The AT connects there and is a marked footpath through 14
states from Georgia to Maine running more than 2,100 miles.
