How about a tent site with a covered picnic table? There are several
shelter areas in northern Virginia with a shelter as well as a covered
picnic table--dump the shelter but keep the covered table. The covered
table provides some shelter in a pinch but certainly isn't sufficient
for people to plan to stay there. In bad weather it provides enough
cover for cooking meals and taking a break before pitching your tent or
hammock. The table area also create a natural gathering spot for
socializing. It would also create a sheltered spot
for a register--something that many tent sites do not have.
