Your right OB, no one NEEDs my respect to call themselves a LD hiker.
And I don't expect, or want, everyone to agree with me. I'm simply stating =
a personal point of view.
(But a LD hiker who lives completely off his or her back, rather than from =
shelter to shelter, is someone to be respected at a higher level.)
Back to the original point that many say DOGS don't belong in the woods, bu=
t the same people feel man made structures do. Where's the logic?
With the attitude of many "so called LD hikers", it appears that in a few y=
ears DOGS will be banned from the trail completely, but we will have a shel=
ter every 5 miles or so as not to inconvenience them. Then maybe add a side=
walk between shelters so you don't get your feet dirty too.
I guess in 50 years the AT will look like the main street of an old town...=
but one WITHOUT DOGS...lol
PS: if anyone gets lost while hiking between shelters, don't let search and=
rescue use a dog help find you. The dog could be one I have breed or train=
ed, and you don't want a dog near YOUR trail!
Just MY point of view folks!

You have a point that shelters have unintended consequences.
However, I do not particularly need to seek your respect based on where I
sleep. If that is all that is needed, your standards have been set too lo=
w.
