Another e-correspondent sent a message that contained a URL for a site with
a bio of Gen. Pershing.  On that site
<http://www.arlingtoncemetery.com/johnjose.htm> I found the following line:
"He won the hearts of the various chieftains and their followers and was
made a 'datto,' a native ruler...".  Does that mean Datto rules?  :)
