[at-l] Stopping Spam while Hiking

Hi Jan,

I know you aren't a techno-wunder-frau, but there are probably some things =
you can do yourself...

First, you can create rules which accept mail only from those you know and =
expect to get mail from. You can also make the rules move the mail to cert=
ain folders and mark it as read. (This makes some e-mail services happy be=
cause your un-read e-mail stays low)

Second, you can turn on your e-mail prog.'s junk mail filters by selecting =
all of the junk you get between now and your leave date and block anything =
new from those senders.

Third, you can un-subscribe or digest mode those regular services which you=
 don't want to block.

These will go a long way to making your inbox less crowded and will allow y=
ou to be able to go more days before your messages start to bounce...

All of these, however, require that you actually start a program and check =
your e-mail for them to work. The very best option is to get a new e-mail =
address and give it to your friends. The next best option is to check with=
your isp (mindspring) and see if they have any services to offer which do =
the work on the front end (blocking the mail before it gets to your inbox)

Have a great hike!

| Hi all,
|
| Since I am changing my physical address and phone number, I wanted to
| keep my e-mail address constant.
| BUT - I realize my mailbox will fill up quickly with junk spam.
|
| I'll try to use libraries and such to clean out the box as I go, but
| this is obviously not a top priority for a hike.
|
| So, I've checked out some spam filters. Can anyone see a flaw in this?
| The terms of service seem to state that they will stop spam, but
| reserve the right to nail me with THEIR spam...
| otherwise, see any flaws? I get to use it free for awhile, in order to
| see.
|
| Anyone have any other tips for keeping mail accounts open?
|
| Jan
