that's why I recommend hikers use something like a MSR miniworks or the MSR=
waterworks. These filters do not have a outlet hose. You just screw a na=
lgene bottle into the filter. When there is only one hose to worry about, =
you have half the problems. I have a PUR Scout with a nalgene bottle attac=
hment. Only one hose. I think that this is a feature that all thru hikers=
should insist on when filtering. The screw on nalgene bottle is a must for=
filtering. This should be the standard. With the bottle attachment you n=
ow only need 2 hands to filter water. The 2 hose thing makes filtering so =
inconvenient/unsafe/slow that it is no wonder that many hikers choose not t=
o filter.
With 2 hose system, you stand your bottle on the ground and you then have t=
o worry about your bottle falling over. And it ever forces you to stand in=
awkward positions to keep the bottle from falling over. All that is a thi=
ng of the past with the screw on.
Pass it on.
