Dustin -
What they're all trying to to tell you is that you don't need the USGS topos
- what you really want are the Appalachian Trail Conference (ATC) maps.

You'll find the maps at "The Ultimate Appalachian Trail Store" on the ATC
website. If you're an ATC member, the URL is:

http://www.atctrailstore.org/catalog/index.cfm?compid=1&pcatid=45

If you're NOT an ATC member, the website is:
http://www.atctrailstore.org/catalog/index.cfm?compid=1&pcatid=45

Yep - there's a difference in price if you're not a member of ATC. If
you're gonna hike the AT, I'd suggest you join ATC in any case. The URL to
become a member is:

http://www.appalachiantrail.org/support/index.html

There's also a whole lot of other information that you might find
interesting starting with the ATC website at:

http://www.appalachiantrail.org/

I'm not an "expert" on that section, but if memory serves, it's not a bad
place to start the trail. There are a few mountains along there, but no
really big climbs until you get to Mass. It's basic cruisin' country.

Don't be shy about asking questions here - that's what this list is about.

Walk softly,
Jim
