[at-l] Looking for AT presentation ideas

I want to second Shane's recommendation and extend it to the rest of the
list as well. One of the things I have been expounding upon the FTA
leadership, is the need to involve a younger generation.

Consider that in "our" generation most of us could walk out our back door
and find woodlands. This is no longer the case. Today, few of us, and even
fewer of the rest of America, has any direct exposure to woodlands, much
less any comfortable expectation of enjoying woodlands.

Consider that in "our" generation there were LOTS of people who volunteered
time for things like Scouting. Today, the number has decreased tenfold.

Consider that in "our" generation there actually were lots of wilderness
areas. Today, they are so rare as to be something to remark upon, as in: I
found a place where I didn't see a road for TWO whole days...

What this adds up to is a terrible loss for today's kids. Most will never
experience the thrill of seeing something as mundane as a deer browsing in a
meadow. Even fewer will climb a mountain or canoe a wilderness lake. We talk
preservation of these things but we forget that it is self interest which
drives people. Unless we can create a love of these places in the hearts of
our children, they will disappear.

Once I knew where I was going, but now I have forgotten. Sometimes my mind
wanders. Sometimes it goes alone, and other times it takes me along...this
isn't one of those times...
