For me, I bought all the gear for my thru-hike at Sharper
Image. Those people really know how to dress up a
thru-hiker. I don't know what I would have done without the
corkscrew that turned into a shower head. The hit at the
shelters each night that's for sure. Also, just a tip for
you prospective thru-hikers...I put one of those glow-like
phosphorescent star maps on the shelter ceiling each night
so I could make believe I was camping outdoors. With the
digitally recorded tinkle of raindrops from my Bose Wave
Radio (only 4.2 lbs and well worth every ounce) my fellow
hikers thought my glow map was quite the addition to their
experience. We'd point out Ursa Major and Ursa Minor while
sipping hot toddy from my titanium thermos. Doesn't get any
better than that.
