[at-l] GA RUCK and the aftermath for Dutch Treat and the ER
Glad nobody minded me inviting all the women from my WH list to the RUCK. I
noticed that most of the male hikers seemed happy about it. A good time
seemed to be had by all. I saw that OB's post was send to the WH list
already.
Those of you at the RUCK may have noticed that my dh Jan "Dutch Treat" was
in quite a bit of back pain during the RUCK. It got much worse and I
finally I had to get him to the ER. He had to drive there but I really do
not know how he did it. They did not xray or really do much of an exam but
they did shoot him up with painkillers. They called the Sheriff to drive us
home as he was in no shape to drive and I cannot drive a standard (actually
I am not supposed to drive any vehicle but I do have a license.) So now the
car is still at the Rabun County Hospital. It was quite a trick to get the
scripts filled but I finally found a way yesterday. He has been on total
bed rest for these three days but is not any better. In fact he is in more
pain. I can feel an area in his back that feels like small pieces of bone
or some kind of fragments immediately next to his spine. It is
excruciatingly painful for him to sit up. It was recommended that I take
him to a doctor for a follow up if he doesn't improve but I do not have any
idea where to take him and I do not have any vehicle to take him in anyhow.
Did I mention that he has no insurance? He had been building a deck and is
very upset that he obviously is in no shape to do that now. Quite a
predicament. Does anyone here have any ideas? I am searching the internet
trying to figure something out. I am looking at car rentals. We have an
old van that is still in Ellijay but it is broken down and no way to fix or
get it here anyhow. One good thing is that we MAY have our Airstream sold.
A man from Boston is supposed to put a deposit in our account tomorrow, but
I will not cheer until I see it as this has happened before and fell
through. He is supposed to pick it up on Monday but, again, I have no idea
how to get over there on Monday and take off the hoses etc.
Just needed to vent and I know that some of you folks have great
imaginations.
