Hi everybody,
I haven't introduced myself before, but I've been
listening in for a month or so. Anyway, I'm planning
a thru-hike this spring, need some advice about bears
and food. Usually when I camp in the east I hang my
food, and when I camp out west I bring a cannister.
Obvious drawbacks to both being that my counter
balancing technique is far from flawless, and I've had
to switch camp sites before because I couldn't find a
good tree, but my cannister weighs 2 1/2 lbs., and I
haven't found anything lighter. Also, it's bulky.
I'm trying to figure out the best plan. I've heard
that most of the shelters and camp sites on the AT now
have cables, is this true? Opinions?
Thanks!
Katie
