[at-l] Rescue Mirror

I'd sight through the hole at the direction I knew or thought rescuers were
coming from. Then, while I held it with one hand, I would shine a light on
the CD. And wiggle it one way then another. Then I would put down the CD
for a beat or two, and then repeat. I would do the flash part about three
times, and then wait for awhile, and then repeat as often as needed. Maybe
3 sets of 3 flashes. Then take a break.

Three is an old ROT for rescue signals: Three flashes, three gun shots, etc.
And you are not going to find much in nature that would flash three times
and then take breaks. And the regular rythem of 3 would not occur in some
piece of trash just twisting in the wind. Also, unless you used a stop
watch, your breakes would be irregular enough so that it was obvious that
you were not an automatic beacon for a radio tower, etc.

And they are CHEAP. Want a few? I get dozens. Not only AOL but old
software that the license has expired on and on old software that is no
longer compatible with our new hardware.

I've been thinking about selling them to some dancers I know. A new update
on the Dance of the 7 Veils.

I was watching the Texas Park TV show, and they had such a good segment
on
rescue mirrors that I had to pass it on.

Easy to get a rescue mirror, any old software CD makes a good one.

To point the flash, make a V out of your fingers at arms length and site
through the center hole and the V of your fingers.
When you see the reflection on your fingers you are flashing the target.

Tie a loop of cord through the center hole and let it dangle and spin
when
you're in one place. They said that this even works
very well at night since most rescue groups are using night vision
goggles
now.
