[at-l] Tasty Bites!

Jim

I have ALOT of experience with the Tasty Bite meals as I ate them
frequently on my 2002 thru hike. After my hiking partner left the
trail, I suddenly had twice as many as I wanted. Before my thru,
I ordered various quantities of about 10 different Tasty Bite meals.

The primary advantage to them would be the ease to make and the
available variety, if you buy them online. Unlike many other hikers,
I didn't grow very tired of the flavors found in these meals. I would
suggest making them with either Cous-cous or mash potatoes to bulk
them up during your hike. There were several flavors that I really
looked forward to at the end of the day, especially the Jaipur Veggies.

HOWEVER, I cannot recommend them for a long distance hike because they
are just too darn heavy since they aren't dehydrated. I might suggest
one tastybite meal each 7-10 days that you can eat your first day out
to keep your taste buds interested. Another disadvantage was the rather
oily and smelly garbage they create. I had to keep the empty containers
double or sometimes triple ziplocked to prevent the smell from getting
into my stuff (though the mice didn't seem as interested.)

If you are planning a canoe trip or some other trip where you aren't
as concerned about pack weight, I would suggest you try them. Otherwise
be vewy vewy caweful.

Happy trails

JimBo

I did find the web site (tastybite.com). At first quick glance, it
looks pretty good. A note about their products says:

Can't beat that!!!
(Anyone else have experience with the Tasty Bites products?
