I decided not to get the spring loaded ones.  I never saw the point.
And they're noisy.

I do adjust for long uphills or long downhills, though.  And the
collapsing
feature is very nice.

I still struggle with the pole tip issue.  I don't want to damage trails,
but the poles tend to slip with tips on them.  Plus the tips occasionally
disappear, which means I've littered.
