Just found this about a death that happened this afternoon on the AT. The
radio report said he had severe head and neck injuries and the rescue team
had trouble getting to him because it was so icy.

"A 47-year-old Hampden man fell to his death Thursday while hiking along an
icy section of the Appalachian Trail.

He was north of Brownville Junction with his daughter. Authorities identified
the victim as Jeffery Peet. His daughter, Dustan Peet, was able to summon aid
but the father succumbed before help arrived. Maine Warden Sergeant Roger
Guay estimated that Peet slid 100 feet or more off the trail following the
mid-day accident. "
