I don't know about them being the same as nerve gas (I doubt that) but they
aren't good for you. Check out

lists of what they can do to you.  OTOH they seem to depend on concentrated
build up of fumes to do harm.  If you had them in your pack or in small
bags attached to your hung food in a shelter the fumes would dissipate and
probably not pose much danger to you.
