       Actually, if you're not an absolute "purist" about starting at the
Bear Mountain Bridge, there's even a better way to end the hike.  From the AT
just east of the intersection of Routes 9/403, you can take the Carriage
Connector Trail north to the Sugarloaf Trail.  From the northern end of that
trail, it's a roadwalk of only about one mile to the Garrison station.

       Several minor corrections:  The name of the town is Fort Montgomery;
to the best of my knowledge, the buses to go the Inn itself (in addition to
stopping at Fort Montgomery); and they terminate at the Port Authority Bus
Terminal on 42nd Street in New York, not at Grand Central Terminal (as it is
properly known).  The buses are operated by the Short Line Bus Company (now,
like almost every other bus company in the country, a subsidiary of Coach
USA).
