In my experience, most people believe that services provided
by government today can't exist in the absence of government.
If you point out that it was once common for such things as
roads and fire-fighting companies to be privately operated,
you'll likely either be answered with the blank stare of
disbelief, or treated to a Just So Story of how the state
became the only suitable entity to provide such services.

Few people can conceptualize privatization on a level that
existed just eighty years ago. Eighty years from now, people
will be equally unable to imagine private airlines and health
care.
