I don't know where you live, but in Ohio you can substitute teach with any undergraduate degree.  I am a retired
teacher ( as of last July), and my husband and I are both subbing this year before we start hiking in March.  It
doesn't pay great -$95 a day, but it does allow for the freedom to leave for the AT when we want to go.  I've only had
three or four days this year when I didn't get called to sub by one of the districts I signed up with.
