[at-l] An AT'02 hiker's Lyme Disese Website

I have to chuckle - an aussie worried about our ticks . . . you guys
have more things that fly, crawl, buzz, slither, jump, swim, bite and
rip than any country on earth! Down here in New Bern, NC we live with
'skeeters and ticks year 'round . . . I pull them [ticks] off of me all
the time if I am out in any kind of brush/woods . . . mosquito bites
are a weekly thing . . . yes, there are risks greater than zero, but I'd
wager that the risk is greater driving to the Trail by far . . . re West
Nile, each state has its own monitoring programs that can give some help
in terms of what is spreading where and when, but in the end your best
defense is reasonable insect prevention measures and a healthy body and
mind!
