[at-l] Gortex boots--is it worth it?
That's a subject *everyone* has an opinion on! :-)
I had no strong opinion myself until last weekend. I had purchased a pair
of REI brand Merrill boots a couple of years ago and they are Gore-Tex
lined. My feet have stayed relatively dry but not enough to notice if there
was really any difference. Last weekend I decided to wear them in a
non-hiking environment - a cave. I spent the entire day tromping and
crawling around in water and by the end of the day - I was soaked everywhere
but my feet! My boots were wet but when I took them off, my socks were dry.
I became a Gore-Tex fan on the spot.
