[at-l] 2,000 + 167 + what?

The trail you hike north bound won't be the same trail that the
southbounders hike. It is possible that the trail you hike will be
different from the one someone a bit ahead or behind you hiked/will hike.

I have cut-in relos while there were people on the segment being abandoned.
First thing in the morning we would build the last few yards of treadway
between the old treadway and the new segment. At the same time a blazing
team would be putting up the new white blazes. We'd start directing folk
onto the new treadway from both ends at a given time -- usually around
midday. At the same time we'd send a sweep hiker from both ends of the old
segment to be sure we didn't isolate someone in the old segment. Once the
sweepers reached the other end, we'd erect the blockades of the old segment
and start the "naturalization" process of the old treadway.

So, occasionally there were folk only minutes apart who walked different
segments.

The trail that you hike next year will probaly not be the same trail that
people hiked last year. I worked on a relo this year. Relos happen all of
the time. I am trying to hike the whole AT a section at a time. I wanted
this to be a 'pure' hike so I was also hiking the relo's when they were
completed. Gave up. I ain't going to worry about it.
