The best fire starter is pine tar or pine pitch.  Find a pine tree that has=
 been damaged and the white stuff that oozes out of the wound burns very we=
ll.  I always carry a bottle with me and collect the stuff.  A big goob on =
some kindling and I can have a roaring fire going in no time.

Another great fire starter is the inner bark of a birch tree.  The oils in =
the bark will ingnite even if the bark is soaking wet.
