[at-l] Winter Backpacking Tips

--
Hi Jonathan,
I'll throw my two-cents worth into the pot, basically so, as you give no
hints as to experience or native ability: keep your powder dry! gatorade
wet before it's time is a drag...
Check the forecast...right before you leave, then figure that an
unforecast ice-storm will make walking really tricky if you didn't bring
instep crampons or yak-trax...bring maps, know ahead of time which way
off the trail and how far it is to warm buildings and food, try to keep
oriented to where you are in case you lose your maps. Wear lots of
bright orange clothing and an orange pack-cover, this has multiple
utility.
Make sure your footwear is as waterproof as possible, but take extra
polyethylene bags big enough to put your wet boots into, so that they
may go into your bag with you: frozen boots=pain+blisters+burnt boots.
Keep your sleeping bag dry at all costs, ditto on spare clothes. Sorry
if this is too
