I used the Aether 60 for my entire thru-hike this year and loved it. It
was one of the most popular packs on the trail this year, particularly
for those folks who switched packs in mid-hike. Some folks did have
problems with the pack stays popping out and/or pushing through the
pack material at the top but Osprey was really good about sending
replacement packs if it became necessary. I was able to reseat
the stay on my pack when this happened and I think the 2002 design
is a little better at preventing this problem. I hiked with the 2001
model since the 2002 model didn't become available until late March.
