[at-l] AJC on the Shooting 11/26

I tend to be cynical about such things, but when I spy an error or a distortion
in a story, I tend to question it all.

>...Owners of private lands crossed by the trail may also allow hunting on their
>property.

Here are a couple of thoughts. The above and a couple of other references to
"private lands" makes me think that the writer believes that significant
portions of the trail are privately owned. Actually, only about 20 to 30 miles
is still not in the ownership of some government agency, federal, state or local

>"...Brian King, a spokesman for the Virginia-based Appalachian Trail
>Conference, the private, nonprofit organization that takes care of the trail
>with authority from the Department of Interior, said enforcing a hunting ban
>would be virtually impossible.

ATC is West Virginia based.

These are both minor errors, but as any good reporter knows any error damages
 his credibility.
