Teen Killed In Hunting Accident
Boy Accidentally Shot By Hunting Buddy

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. -- A Martinsville teen was killed Sunday morning in a
hunting accident.


Police said Brandon Whaley, 17, was accidentally shot by another teen
described as a "lifelong friend," <A HREF="mailto:chris_bavender@theindychannel.com";>RTV6's Chris Bavender</A> reported.

The accident happened shortly before 8:30 a.m. Whaley and his 17-year-old
friend were in a wooded area on Voyles Road that belonged to Whaley's uncle,
Bavender reported.
According to a spokesperson with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources,
as Whaley walked through the woods, his friend went to sit down, accidentally
discharging his 12-gauge shotgun.

A bullet hit Whaley in the right shoulder and exited through his neck,
Bavender reported.
The friend, whose name is not being released, drove Whaley to the Morgan
County Memorial Hospital, where Whaley was pronounced dead.
Police said no charges will be filed against the teen who fired the gun,
Bavender reported.
Whaley was a junior at Martinsville High School. School officials said grief
counselors are expected to be at the school Monday, Bavender reported.
