Gosh, I can't believe I'm about to defend Weary (who really doesn't need it=
), but...
I know he has spent as much time on the AT as anyone on this list.
His post was talking about the trails on the land trust preserve, not the A=
T. I'm quite certain he's carried more than his fair share of trash away f=
rom shelters on the AT.
Having said that, unless you've been there, you really can't imagine how pr=
istine the trails are in Maine. I did a thru this year, so I just finished=
going through Maine. I remember one day taking a break by East Carry Pond=
. I was thinking what a wonderful place it was with no development in sigh=
t when it hit me that there wasn't so much as a cigarette butt on the shore=
. I was astounded that such a place even existed. For the next few hours,=
I was actually hunting for a piece of trash and I couldn't find any.
That was an extraordinary feeling on a wonderful day. But the entire journ=
ey was full of extraordinary days and I had almost forgotten that one. Tha=
nks for reminding me.

OK, I just HAD to reply to this one.
I don't want in this OT discussion but THIS comment IS trail related!
And it's getting pretty deep!
Weary Said <<< I have yet to find as much as a gum
wrapper on the walking trails that by reason of terrain, motors can't reach=
.
>>>
You know that's Bull Sh%#.
If YOU haven't found any trash left by hikers on the trails you must Hike w=
ith your eyes closed.
And knowing you can't hike with your eyes closed means only one of two thin=
gs.
Either you DON'T really hike on trails, or you are obviously lying... whi=
ch is it..? tell US..!
Making a comment like that discredits everything else you might have to say=
.
I'm only making an HONEST assessment of the comment. (no slam intended wear=
y)
