[at-l] New topic: Thanksgiving on the trail

Well,

ummm or should I say YUM. Aside from my first choice of finding an AYCE in
a trail town, this would be my deal. I'd have to try to duplicate my family
tradition (from what they tell me its been this way since the 30's). We
have ancestory on this continent that goes back further than the early
1800's. I don't know where it came from but I like to think it was because
of the old ways of having EVERYTHING.

We have Turkey, Goose, Squirrel, Rabbit, Ham and Liver for the meats, the
yams and other potato dishes, nice sour n hot pickled eggs and beets,
stuffed cherry peppers, the other veggies corn, beans, brussels, etc.

Desert is (always) at Dutch oven contest, every one who wishes to (and
there was 8 one year) can do their own "special" Dutch oven treat. This is
always good and really makes it a great way to have fun with the meal.

NOW WHAT I would do if I know I am going to spend the day on the trail WITH
OTHERS. I would know this from the start so Id have to get the meat and the
gravy into the dehydrator and start drying, the veggies also all this would
go into one bag, the potato would have to be either mashed or canned and
then heated up out there (i go for mashed). For desert, Id probably just
put 2-3 different cobblers together- dehydrate this and take along a can of
evap milk to eat it with.

NOW WHAT I would really do ALONE. A cornish hen or two picked up in last
trail town, a veggie can and a couple of connivence store peach pies.

If you were to spend Thanksgiving on the trail, what would you make for
Thanksgiving dinner?
