WHEN IS THE VERY FIRST FALL?

When is the very first fall?
Does it come in our first September?
Or is it more unique,
Is it the first that we remember?
Does it come when golden hair
Is floating on the cool autumn breeze,
With little feet chasing
The silver laced treasure of the trees?
Descending and circling,
Leaves reflecting autumn=92s silver light,
Flutter and then settle
Like the wild geese recessing from flight.
Objects of such great wonder
In childhood=92s abbreviated lease,
These troves stalked and pursued
With joyous squeals, and giggles, and peace.

This poem was born from watching my grandchildren chasing leaves as they
came down. It was their first camping trip.
