[at-l] FYI, Baxter Stats

Hopefully the formatting will survive. I'd be happy to e-mail an
.xls file to anyone who requests it. Here are the "official" AT
statistics for Baxter SP this season. As described in the note, the
steady Class IV conditions prevented many folks from summiting in
late October. The headers on the columns are this order: AT
Southbound, AT Northbound, AT Flip-Flop, Section Hike Northbound,
Section Hike Southbound, IAT Northbound and IAT Southbound, and
Monthly Totals. I don't know the exact methodology that was used to
collect the data, so interpret w/ caution.

BSP initiated a campaign to educate northbound AT hikers about
conditions in Baxter, and this effort was apparently successful from
reports by ridge runners and BSP staff.

Having been like Tim, recently buried in work the past month or so,
forgive me if this has already been posted.

*A parkwide discrepancy is occuring in all areas of park stats for this yea=
r. We have no reason to view Katahdin Stream as an exception to this trend=
based on lack of coverage in the campgrounds throughout the season. Compa=
rison with other AT areas and numbers would be required to confirm trends i=
n this data. Other notes include steady Class IV days from October 17th. =
Parkwide, 2002 stats may be somewhat unreliable due to a combination of sta=
ff shortages/turnover/lack of staff experience recording data.
