[at-l] Cost Comparison - Digital VS Slides

I just got back from 1/2 hour photo, where I got a 24 exposure roll of
Fuji 35mm film processed and printed for $7.95, and got a CD added for
an extra $6.95. The CD comes with each photo in FIVE different file
sizes, ranging from tiny to huge - plus their photo CDs come with a
decent picture file viewer program included on it. While 1/2 hour photo
is obviously not a custom lab, I have been pretty well satisfied with
their work - they did all of the CDs for my 2001 AT hike, the smaller
size pic files of which you can peruse on backcountry.net at:

To sum up - I still think you can go the "low tech" digital route really
cheaply and keep the potential flexibility of continuing to use a 35mm
camera . . . at least it is a viable option.

p.s. Shortly, I hope to post a short trip report and upload to
backcountry.net a few pics of my weekend camp/hike adventure up around
Clingman's Dome - those also were processed just today at 1/2 hour photo
onto a CD from my 35mm Nikon LiteTouch 120 zoom pocket camera [the same
one I took on the AT in 2001]
