I presume, you read all the preceding posts.  You never objected they are
OT.  Preceding posts offered very subjective points of view, rants, and
personal attacks.  This is the only post which actually tries to explain
something - - the logic underlying the formation and continuance of the
Electoral College.

You chose this occasion to object.

How unfortunate.

To elaborate upon Charles Copeland's post, the Electoral College functions
to preclude a merely regional political candidate or parochial demagogue
from overwhelming the political interests of the remaining regions of this
country.

This keeps multi-millionaire religio-racist-fascist nitwits from taking over
at the national level.  The cost is the occasional election of the "wrong"
candidate in an otherwise close election in a country where most of the
eligible voters don't care much anyway.

This list has often been described as a virtual campfire.  People wander
over, squint through the smoke, offer opinions, sometimes make mistakes,
laugh or sulk for a while.  Time has passed allowing many wounds to heal.
It is sometimes difficult to tell when a subject is "officially" OT.
Allowances are sometimes made; special exemptions tacitly given.
