[at-l] Voting and Citizenship.

Malcolm,

Reference your two posts, dated 11-8-02, reacting to posts by Jack Tarlin
and Woodelf.

I was tempted to submit a post on this subject, mentioning Thomas
Jefferson's observation that Democracy requires an "informed electorate."
It predated but was to be along the line of Weary's submission, except a
touch snotty.

I continue to be bewildered by the mindless (I think) push for everyone to
vote. I can develop several mechanisms to force everyone to polling places,
and additionally to make vote selections. I don't understand, however, why
my future should be decided by people who feel they have not paid sufficient
attention to the issues involved. I appreciate uninformed people staying
home.

I chose not to post anything on this subject. (I would have elaborated upon
the above synopsis.) I read Jack Tarlin's post. I was immediately
thankful I had elected to remain silent; I would not want to have been on
the distribution list of his post. His lightening bolt would have stunned
me into silence, my edges would have been singed and still be smoldering. I
would have wanted to melt lead to pour into his eyes, ears, and mouth,
regardless that it would have done no good.

It was quite a neat essay. [I copied his essay and saved it to my Essay
File (there aren't many entries there).]

I empathize with your burn. I don't think, however, including such terms as
"Fool" and "Liberty for Dummies" advances your position, nor are they
flattering for you. I believe there is an alternative AT-L site where your
screams may be more appropriate.

Get well soon.

Steve
