[at-l] My review of White House Landing...

I stayed at White House Landing and also had a maildrop there this
year. I stayed there with about 15 other hikers and we all had a
fantastic time. Yes it was a bit more expensive than other places on
the trail (food and maildrop, lodging was quite reasonable) but it is
in a remote location with few services (no phone, no mail, no
electricity), so that is exactly what we expected.

The companion clearly states that there is a fee for packages and also
to ask about charges for all services. There is a phone number so
it is possible to call them from Monson to check on everything before
making your plans.

I think it is important for hikers to be flexible and understand that
many of the businesses on the trail are quite marginal from a economic
point of view. They can't afford to accommodate everyone personally
when they are only charging $15 or $20/night (or $0 if someone isn't
even staying overnight!). In any case, I often got better attention
at a hostel or guesthouse than I did at a chain motel where I was paying
$60 to $80/night.
